Richard Moon began his career in construction at age 16, spending seven years working for a general contractor in Greater New York City. To develop a comprehensive understanding of the trade, Moon chose to work for a contractor who executed each phase of construction in-house. As a result, he mastered every discipline from pouring concrete and laying tile to installing cabinetry and casework.

In 1995, Moon began working for a high-end residential construction company. As project manager, his attention to detail, knowledge of how things are built and problem-solving skills garnered acknowledgment from architects and owners alike. Moon was quickly promoted to senior project manager, and turned his attention to the development of multi-million-dollar homes in Manhattan.

Drawn to the high level of design found in the boutique hospitality industry, Moon began working with hotelier Ian Schrager. As part of the development and construction team, Moon oversaw the redevelopment of the Gramercy Park Hotel and the creation of 50 Gramercy Park North Residences, a two-and-a-half year project that resulted in one of the city’s most distinguished new properties.

Upon completion of the Gramercy projects, Moon began Richard F. Moon & Associates. He immediately began three exciting projects: the 12,000 square foot headquarters of Baron and Baron; a luxury condominium building in Manhattan’s West Village; and an ongoing consulting arrangement with hotelier André Balazs. Based on the strong relationship that developed with Balazs, Moon was offered the position of Senior Vice President of Construction and Development for André Balazs Properties. In this role, Moon oversaw the development and construction of all company projects, including capital projects at existing hotels and new projects such as the development and construction of The Standard New York.

Moon completed two of the most important hotel projects in New York in a brief five years. In January 2010, he launched The Moon Group where he continues to provide owner representation and general contracting services for hospitality, commercial and high-end residential projects.

Today, The Moon Group has become one of the most well-respected project management and construction firms in New York. As a company that understands the personal connection between a place and its people, The Moon Group team works to participate in open conversation, actively explore new trends in high design, and approach each project from a place of creativity and ingenuity.
